The Hussites of Bohemia were the first medieval army to embrace gunpowder in the 1420’s. The Bohemian revolution was a revolt against the papacy and religious prosecution. The agrarian Hussites armored their wagons, circled them together, and mounted howitzers between them. Manned by gunners, crossbowmen, and pikemen, these mobile fortifications repelled five Crusades and revolutionized medieval warfare. Ultimately, the Hussites inspired the Protestant Reformation and influenced the shaping of colonial America.
Winemaking notes: Hand picked single vineyard pinot noir from the Laurelwood District AVA. 100% press run wine. Contains a probiotic culture with natural and added sulfites for freshness — no additional additives, preservatives, or animal products, or residual sugar. Aged for 2 years on the lees in a combination of French Medium+ toasted oak.
Tasting notes: Whoever says pinot noir can't be robust hasn't had an entirely press run pinot noir! What this means is that after the fermentation finishes we siphon off all the free standing wine, which is called the free run, and then press out all the wine that is trapped in the skins. The result is a tannin forward pinot which rich notes of plum, sweet leaf tobacco, and anise. The 2020 Howitzer is the kind of wine that will stand up to a meal or pair with a nice cigar.
