“Rosie the Riveter” is a pop culture phenomenon that represented the women who took over factory production during WWII. Seamstresses in particular found that riveting was a natural fit for them, which is why the aviation industry saw the largest increase in female workers to 65% of the total workforce. The majority of planes during WWII were built by women and were flown to their respective theaters by women air crews – known as WASPs. From the hand-painted instrument panels to the munitions dropped on targets, industrious women across the country contributed their own blood, sweat, and tears to victory!
